hey guys,
I work at a local fish store in my town, and a few days ago someone brought in an albino oscar that he could no longer care for as it outgrew his tank. I decided to take the oscar home and put it in my 90 gallon with an adult male convict and a 6 inch female dempsey for the time being. The oscar is about 7 inches and Much to my disliking, the previous owner fed the oscar live minnows and goldfish. I don't feed any of my fish feeders becuase i think its an unnecessary risk to the fish' health.. especially with oscars. So the problems is i've had the oscar now for 4 days and he/she wont accept anything i am offering. It won't take pellets or even bloodworms and krill. Will it be possible to get this oscar to switch to accepting pellets? How long will it take for the oscar to eat what I offer? How worried should i be if more days go by and she hasn't eaten anything?

Well nourished healthy fish can go weeks without food. Stick to your guns and feed what you normally would. He will see them and eventually take to it. Of all fish I would not worry about an oscar.

This x2...

If this goes on for 2 weeks then you may have a problem but I'm sure he/she will break down and eat before that. Oscar's are the biggest cry babies, yours is just going through a normal sulking period and should perk up and start eating soon.

Keep offering what you are now, truthfully I'm surprised the blood worms aren't working. If you're looking for more options you may want to try crickets along side the pellet food since krill isn't working.

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

He will eat crickets. Put a cricket or two in with some pellets to get him eating from the surface. Then stop giving crickets and just pellets. When he is hungry enough he will eat those pellets. Good luck man.
