Ok so i wanted to go big right, so i bought this 130 gallon glass setup 73x19x23, with diy concret background.

My problem is it is 4" to tall for my space.

I have read some glass cutting techs, but any ideas about cutting an assembled tank? Local custom tank shop said they had no idea how to shorten it????

But, before the glass could even be cut, the concrete has to come out. How would you deal with that??

Thanks everyone, probably be on alot as i get started with a large setup.

The only way I can think of is completely disassembling it, and cutting one piece at a time.

The concrete could be done with a circular saw and a concrete cutting blade. Its probably just siliconed in, I would just pull it out if you could and then cut it.

It will sit on a custom cabinet 20" high, to the bottom of the window trim, and 75" wide, distance between windows. Any lower and the door will be too small to use for anything, it will be 12".

Above is open wall, but i have it painted for my projector screen. If i adjust PJ for smaller screen, it will look odd since it is framed by 2 windows.

So i CAN deal with the height, but i really WANT to shorten it.

I was wondering if i removed sealant as far down as i wanted to cut it and scored it along outside, and lay it down, would it break with the score line on the underside?

I think if i scored the inside of the tank i could not get the last inch, so don't know if it would break clean at the seams?

I am hoping I can pry the concret off carefully, and maybe a heat gun to the outside? I think you are right about silicon, as not much else seems to stick to glass very well or very long, especially underwater. Just got to figure out how to do it. I know that phos acid will get the cement out, dont know about its effect on silicone, it wont harm glass i know.

I am in National Gaurd, so when i get home this weekend i will double check my measurements, and raise PJ pic as high as I can, maybe shrink the whole thing some, and see just how much i can fit.

We could always take the light off when tv watching, but really wanted to shorten the tank.

just sell it and buy a 100g 72x18x18 or shorten the stand. you try to shorten the tank you might as well toss it in the garbage, too much that can go wrong with only 1 try to get it right.

Thanks guys, trying to get by with what I got. I am in National Guard, and when not doing that I drive a school bus, so funds are tight right now.

I looked on ebay and craigslist, and all the ppl i contacted still have their tanks for sale, so not likely i could move it quick anyways.

I would, but i paid 300 for the whole complete setup, with a brand new in box canister filter, they said they paid 300 just for it. there is a tank shop nearby and just the tank is more then that.

I can't afford it.

I have two glass shops that are going to give me estimates on cutting it, I guess i wll see wht they think.

Stand can not be shortened. It will only have 16" of usable space as it is.

Thanks guys, I think you are right, I will just buy a tank made to fit my area. Then I can get it drilled and setup just like I need it.

Thanks again for making me think it through. It will take longer, but i will wait until the cabinet is installed, then figure plumbing, then get tank, and slowly copy Chompers maintenance free rugf wet/dry filter setup. Hopefully by xmas I will have an awsome tank on display.
