Hello so it's been a week since I got my goonch. An the past couple of days he's seemed to be going down hill. He's gotten really lethargic. I've noticed some red markings on the underside of him. Done a water test all seems fine. Temp is at 23c. All other tank mates are good.

Maybe it was already I'll, has it fed? Did the vendor have it feeding.?
Could have parasites or disease.
Not sure on what to do, I would separate and treat for parasites then try maracyn 1+2... Maybe that's jumping the gun but best to catch things early ime.

I would really clean tank by vacumming every inch of your tank. Being a ambush pradator that sits motionless on bottom, maybe prone to bacterial infections.

Cheers for the replys. I've not seen him eat. The sand is vacuum cleaned and shifted around weekly. So theres no gas build up. I've put some kusuri wormer plus, in there just in case it's parasites.

Perhaps my eyes betray me or the color is distorted, but your ammonia is not fine, it is not zero at all, when it should have been yellow, no greenish hue.

I hope it is just ammonia that's bothering it. Goonch require pristine, toxin-free water. Absolutely a must.

The redness you see may be the reaction to ammonia, not quite a burn but irritation.

+1 you are definitely pushing .5 ammonia if that test is accurately done.

Just like most fish that come from amazingly good quality water, even the slightest unbalanced parameter is going to affect them.

I agree with the thinking the the ammonia is affecting the fish. They need good water, current and high 02 levels in addition to cool water.
