I'm building a 750 gallon plywood tank and it's going to have a 150 g sump, so a total of 900 g. I figure I will need at least 2500 watts worth of heating. What is the best way to accomplish this? I was going to get 5 500w heaters. My tank will be within 10 of the water heater for my house btw, if that opens up an options. So anybody that heats a huge tank, how do you do it?

3500L I would just go with 4 eheim 300w maybe 5 to lower running time but I reckon that would do it fine, I use one in each 180G and the temps always up and they might run for max 1 hour per a day from what I see.

Is that really enough wattage? I was told 3 watts per gallon as a rough estimate. What is the air temp and water temp? If I can get away with that I'll be saving a bunch

well I cant double confirm it, I use one 300W for each 180 to heat from 18-20C air temp to 24-26 my temps stay at a constant 24-26, The room is not insulated or anything so in winter the area is more likely 14-16C and tank still remains at 24-26 + I hardly see the heaters on which is why I think you would be fine with 4-5.

180G x 5= 900 gallons of water= your tank size based of all that id say yes but maybe a more experience member with extra large tanks can add input maybe my maths is not correct due to some science term lol.
