I have 2 giant snakeheads , Reds , Micros

Both my fish are exactly the same age
bought from the same LFS
kept in the same tank
fed the same food (prawns + cockles + frozen squid bits + bloodworm + beef heart)
temps constant 80 / water changed 50% every 2 weeks / cansiter filter

one has now started to change colour and is hiding in the corner all the time also this might sound strange but when he does move he seems more....bendy.... his body seems to twist more than the other one

is my fish dieing orwhat ?

There currently about 7 or 8 " i would estimate

please help i really dont want my SH to die

thanks

Hi,Ok lets get a clearer view of the situation.Did you buy the sneakheads the same day,did you always keep them together. When your feeding them do you wait to see who is eating what and how much. For the 50 percent water changes every two weeks I think its too much,do you use aged water or is it right from the tap?Last of all how about water values and your setup.

yes i bought them from the same shop at the same time,
they have always been in the same tank togeather (this is there 2nd home now currently been in there 2months)
due to other fish i dont always see who eats what altho it hink they are both eating
water changes are from the tap its not aged water
no idea about water values never tested i dont even have a kit

Hi ,from what I see you have fishes other than micros in the same thank? I think that micros and other channa species should be kept in a species tank. How about your setup, how big is your tank,is it planted or what?

see my siggy for the SH's i have

the tanks 4' right now

right now the tanks plenty big enough for the fish there in there with some cichlids right now but thats irrelivent

I dont think 50% water changes every 2 weeks is too much. actually quite the opposite I think it's not enough. I do atleast 55%-65% water changes on my non growout tanks once a week. On my grow out tanks its 45% or so every 3 days.

Get a test kit. Anytime I am having a problem with a fish or tank I start with the basics. IMO most problems with home aquariums are related to water quality in some way shape or form.

What kind of filter (s) do you have? How often do you do tank maintenance?

Correct me if I am wrong but sh put out a lot of waste filtration could be a contributing factor.

Yes but it depends on many factors like ,how big is your tank, how many fishes do have in it,what kind of setup is it,how often do you feed and what do you feed you fish. These are just some.
