Need help ID this cichlid

I purchased 8 JDs in hopes to form a pair, however this one guy was pretty beaten up when I got him. He seems to be doing much better now, yet hes the most aggressive and territorial of the lot. I cant tell if hes actually a JD though. Heres some pics of him, any help ID or confirming hes a JD or not would help. (Hes the black one with hardly any blue spangles.)

He's black from stress and being half beat to death

Im not sure why he came from the lfs like that or what fish did that to him since he seems to be the most aggressive of the group.

could be why, most aggressive doesn't mean boss. my JD loves to start fights, most of those fights he has no business starting though and gets himself a little beat up now and again.
