I have an oscar that recently had a white spot or mouth fungus spot below his lip. I treated it with melafix and it went away. However, I now notice that whole inside of his mouth is white and also some whiteness around the gills. What disease is this or is it some type of fungus. It doesnt seem to bother him, he still eats like crazy and acts normal. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
E

definitely need more info. Was the wound white or off-white to gray?,was it fluffy looking or coarser more granular looking?,did the wound grow fast or slow?was it isolated to the head-gill-mouth area?.You stated tat the melafix cleared it up,but there is still evidence of a sore.Is it decreasing in size?,does it look like scar tissue?.pics would be very helpful.Could be mouth fungus, cotton wool disease.keep using melafix as per instruction, you can also use pimafix along with melafix if your unsure if its bacterial or fungal.do you ave any other occupants in the tank?do they show signs? If you have plants you may not want to use the salt as it can harm them.Hope you can figure this out in time, good luck :(

You bring up a good point..... I don't think about people haveing a planted tank unless they say so in their post.... but I will start using a disclaimer. Thanks for the reminder

We need pictures to help, is the white cloudy? slimy? fuzzy? continuos or broken? does it appear to be on the skin or below it? Need more info.

Melafix doesnt' fix everything, more bacterial and skin wounds than anything. What you need to try is PimaFix. Thats more fungal orientated. If you really wanna make sure you can combine both MelaFix and PimaFix together. It even suggests doing it on the bottles of each for more effiective treatment. Ich will be in little tiny distinctive 'pin head' sized white spots all over. You should be able to easily tell the difference between ich and fungus/bacterial growth. Just FYI. Try the PimaFix/MelaFix combo for 5 days and see what happens. Chances are that it will solve ur problems. BE SURE TO REMOVE ANY ACTIVATED CARBON otherwise it will be pointless. Ur tank will smell kinda good for a few days as well..hehe...so added perk!
