I live in Fort Lauderdale and I've seen dozens of introduced fishes in these canals. Some are now common. However, over this past year to 18 months, I continue to see these strange fishes in a canal at my job site. This is a canal that leads into a decent sized lake. The fish are shaped like CICHLIDS, are all over 10" and wide bodied. They are Pure, vivid white, but have orange blotches like a KOI. Some have two tone, overlapping blotches, just like a koi! I'd say MIDAS hybrids. However, one fish that I own is a Midas/Flowerhorn mix. He's also white with orange, but has the rounded face. These fishes in question have very large lips. I've seen brightly colored orange and pink as well as red MIDAS in the wild, and the body and head shape is different. Any thoughts? I've so far been unable to snap a good photo. (Through a fence) or to catch one of these and the last couple days it's been too cold. They'll be in deep water. I see them on sunny days. They hang out in groups of 2 or 3. It's quite a sight.

Yes. That's the head shape right there. So they are Midas. I'll get a photo as soon as I can. They are BEAUTIFUL!

20131123_161515.jpgThis is my Midas/Flowerhorn orange and white. He has bright blue eyes. Very docile. Also, he only eats if he's not being watched. If you feed him, he wont eat until you turn away. You can see him eat in a mirror. Very funny.

midas and flowerhorns are different. and yours is a midas. :)
he wont eat probably because he's afraid. am i right? midas are suppose to be aggressive fish, probably will bite your finger if u mess around with it.
btw, i am growing these monsters, my 4 midas fries. they are growing fast and are very active. they always wait on top of the tank to feed earthworms. lol

149474010_display.jpgHis mother was an orange red devil. (midas) The father was a gold pearl flowerhorn. The traits are deffinately Midas. His known brothers and sisters are VERY flowerhorn looking. This photo...same parents. Different batch. The photo angle looks like a short body. It's not.

also red devil is another different species, not the same as midas. btw, nice midas ! :) can i see pics of the gold pearl fh u r talking bout?

20131223_183647.jpg This is a photo of another gold Pearl I own. The father died at eight years old. This fish at this size looks just like him. He is not related.
I have no photos of the actual one. He was so easy to breed. No fight in him at all. He has dozens of adult offspring with different mothers and no two seem to be the same strain. I also have a red ZZ male who has fathered dozens of living adults and everyone of them look just like him. Breeding seems to be a strange science.
