hey there, so im setting up my first salt tank,i have had all the rock in the tank for about a month, and i havent added any fish or cleaners yet so today when i was looking at my tank i saw what looks like a worm. its about an inch long kind of a light red color and black at its back end,it also has what look like white spikes on the side of its body, the spikes are like on a 45 degree angle, it moves like a catterpiller, and it seemed to be travelling threw very very small holes on one of my pieces of live rock.

any help would be great

thank you. im like 95% sure i found what this worm is, according to the site its nothing to worry about. its in the bristle worm family

Probably just a bristle worm, harmless if the population is stable and under control, but if you overfeed your tank they can get out of hand. Other then that they're essential to the reef tank as they're excellent detritus eaters.

so these bristle worms i have, if i found the right one on that website apparently they are good for the tank not harmful.. so will my fish try to eat them, once i get fish? or will something eat them if they get out of hand

some fish will eat them, and they will only "get out of hand" if you over feed your tank to much, as the live off leftover food as well as wastes.

I believe Arrow crabs are great for keeping
the population in check if they get out of hand

Marine bettas are also known to predate on bristle worms, but if you have smaller fish or plan on keeping smaller fish then it wouldn't be a good mix.
