Hi guys. I have a friend that's starting up a salt water tank. He asked me to help him look for a sting ray, manta ray, white tip shark, and a sand shark. If you know of anywhere with those, pls holla at a brotha. Thanks. :chillpill:

I guess I'll have to tell him he cant have some of these..

Haha...research, no kidding!
Manta ray! :ROFL:Why stop there? Why not a humpback whale?

No seriously, none of those are for someone thats just 'starting up a salt water tank' and I hope the intention would not be for those to all be kept together. Species compatibility and tank size are crucial so you would need to be more specific on what species of stingray and just know that the name Sand shark is a general term used for many species of shark.
So my question is, is this your 'friends' first sw tank? Keeping elasmobranchs in general is more difficult than clown fish or damsels. Tell your 'friend' to read a book or two, and do some internet searches, then come back an ask. The "Hello Shark Nuts" thread on here is a good place to start. Good luck!

Well of the species you've listed - a type of stingray is the best choice for a home aquaria.

The best choices for stingrays for a Saltwater aquarium - is the members of the genus Urobatis & smaller members of the genus Dasyatis.

The Whitetip Reef needs at least 20,000-25,000 gallons to be kept in captivity. While not impossible - it does require that the aquarist be willing and able to build a very large private shark lagoon for it.

The Manta Ray is completely impractical - since they can have a wingspan(disc width) of over 20 ft.(6.1 meters). And they have only been kept in very large Public Aquariums.

As for the "Sand" shark - there is actually several different species that have been called that. They range in size from 3-5' (smoothhounds, & small coastal requiem sharks) to 10-12' (Grey Nurse (Sand Tiger), & Nurse sharks). So in this case need to be more specific - as to which species.

If your friend is several about a Shark/ray tank - maybe they should look in to a smaller more "Aquaria Friendly" species of shark - such as Bamboos, Eppies, Catsharks, or Horn Sharks - with a small species of ray.

I love threads like this.

And if there is some chance this is real, I'm sure we can locate the animals for you, provided your friend has the money, the tank/LSS to hold them and the permits to house them in California/US. I personally would love to take on a multi million dollar project right now. I have some free time.
