I just moved from Colorado to New Jersey and I would like to put my 242 gallon acrylic in the upstairs dining room. The floor is the 2 inch x 10 inch floor joists at 16 inch centers. The house has wood floors and pine flat boards as the base flooring under the wood floors. Would it be ok to put some floor jacks from the basement under the four corners? I know this thing wieghs in with 1,936 pounds of water alone. The tank is pretty heavy by itself. If not anyone need a 242 gallon acrylic tank? LOL.......... The 180 is going in the basement in the "man cave". The movers are on thier way here in a few hours. Need imput pretty quick.
Thanks, Jeff
No! ABSOLUTELY NOT! HAve the movers drop it off at my place, it's not out of their way and I can always use an extra.
I didn't think that was going to work.
As long as your willing to use floor jacks, yes it will work. 3 in a row with a 3ft piece of 4"x4" running at a right angle to the length of the tank should support it better than at 4 corners. And if you still want to do all four corners put one in the center also.
If you don't have experience with floor jacks, consult an expert and make sure he understands the load your going to have.
And if you do it, please take some pix of the bracing, others on here could benefit.
i sure the heck wouldnt attempt it. I know people with 220 gal reefs that poured concrete bases from the basement to the 1st floor because of the weight and warping issues.
