need help my arowana wont eat

can anybody help me, i have an 12-14 in silver arowana, i purchase it last sept, everything was ok, but when i change about 75%-80% of water it suddenly wont eat, its almost a month now, i am putting a melafix on its water starting last week.

please help me

You changed too much water at one time and now you're adding useless chemicals to your tank without knowing what the problem is.

Before this large water change, how was your water change schedule?

I'd say to wait it out, arowanas will sometimes not eat.

I agree with Gshock. Could simply be stress. try keeping the Aquarium dark and covered for a few day and keep trying to feed the Aro what it likes.

aros also will just stop eating for periods of time... tho i agree that was probably to big a WC unless that is what he was used too... with mine i never miss a WC and only feed once every 2 days but he still about every 3 months will stop eating for 2 weeks to a month... i would just wait it out and maybe not do such a big WC and if ya want to change out that much water spread it out thoughout the week... goodluck

i use to change water every week about 30 to 40%

got the same thing my silver arowana dosnt eat also il put him in an new tank and dosnt eat for almost a weak .and i dont know wat to do?help
he is 40 cm long and active fish in the tank
so i dont see the problem

probably the water change. it's just like when you buy a new fish and the water is different and they may go w/o food for a week etc...

so just do what you normally would do to such a fish:
-lights out
-dont scare it too much
-feed a little at a time
-etc...
I wouldnt add any meds unless you see signs of illness such as white stringy feces, then you may have a problem.

sometimes predator fish starve for weeks and some say up to a month w/o food.

what usually works for me with fish who don't eat is bumping up the temp 2 degrees or so. (and not feeding them for a day).
Usually within a few days theyll start eating again.

In that case, it might be a seasonal thing. Some aros will stop eating for periods of time. How were your nitrates before the big water change?

Sometimes they stop eating when you move them. Mine didn't eat for three weeks.
