i am looking to buy a canister filter for my 180 gallon that i am setting up

how many gph do you reccomend?

i want to go with an ocean clear, but i have no clue what pump to get, what tubing to get and how to hook it up, or what else i need to buy for it. i was looking to get atleast 1000gph.

if you know ocean clear, hook a brotha up and let me know what i will all need and what size

otherwise i was thinking to go to

EHEIM 2260 LG CANISTER FILTER

dont know anything about them. really just want one canister and my tank to be crystal clear

my tank will be slightly overpopulated, so over filtration is pretty much a must!

Thanks in advance

 To the best of my knowledge both Ocean Clear & Nu-Clear canisters require high pressure water pumps like http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsU...078/cl0/coralifeturboseahighpressurepump1100p or others w/ at least 1000gph rating. These type 'cans' are designed to operate in series of 2 or more to handle different stages of water purification. I imagine one unit can function alone but if you want mech., bio., & chem. in a single unit better (& cheaper) to go w/ Eheim Pro III, Fluval FX5 or Rena XP4. JMHO Good luck, "T"

Howdy,

I'd get the Eheim 2260 or 2262. I have had several filters from the Classic Line, and like them better than Eheim's Pro Lines. They hold much more media than any othet canisters.

what will your stock be?

my fx5 on my 180 works gr8!

 Not positive but I believe you're right. You need the 'high pressure' 1100P or 1740P in that series of pumps. Double check to be sure, cause I could be wrong. You gotta have the right pump for these type filters to be effective. The 'single canister' goal can still be accomplished w/ a lot less hassel http://www.petsolutions.com/Eheim+Extra+Large+Canisters-I-20622105-I-C-101811-C-.aspx or http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=14672&inm=1&N=2004+22777+2032 or http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/flfx5hipecaf.html. If you're dead set on Ocean Clear then suggest you give parent co. a buzz or e-mail Red Sea Regional Offices

i will give them a call, good idea, but i have been searching the web for 2 weeks and i think i figured it out.

my tank will be heavily stocked, so i want atlest 1000gph through the 180

with those links you gave me, the best filter there was did 450gph for 332.99. i am paying about 350 for 1100gph filter, looking for high gph and can run it on one filter media instead of two, cuts down on the maintance. i am lazy, i just want a very clean and happy tank without really having to mess with it. also the ocean clear canisters allow you to add on to it, so if i like this one, maybe ill get the OC 325 to polish the water.

i think i got my mind made up, ill let you know how it goes:D
