Hello--

I need to make a decision on a couple of fish that a dealer has. I want the fish, but the price seems a little high. Can anyone tell me if the below seems like a good price? These are both tank bred.

male dwarf red top afra , labid. Hongi Lg. Male $60 US each.

How big are they? Full grown show males maybe or wild caught, but thats pushing it. F1 stock I get 3 inch Yellow Top Afras for 8.99 and 3 inch Hongi for around $16.99.
I'm in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma by the way so others may get cheaper. Here prices are always higher.

That price is ridiculous. I would rather grow them out. For full grown fish, I wouldn't pay more than $30 each. Of course, I go back to my grow out idea where you pay $3 a fish and $30 for shipping.

I have several hongi's 3-4" and Ive had them for about 4 months now. I believe I got them for 9.99 a piece. One has turned black and the other is brilliant with color....cool attitudes also. Get 'em !!!

Oh, I will get them. They are on my list with a p. flavus. I just won't pay 3x the price.

I picked one up the other day, he was marked for $20 but they gave him to me for $10 about 3 inches long. great colors, and quickly becomming one of my favorite "personalities" in the tank, very fun to watch.

Yea, I'm pretty disappointed that this guy was trying to either take advantage of me or just paid too much on his end for the fish. He was the last contact I had for unusual mbuna other than online.

I love the hobby, but I can't afford a $60 mbuna, even if that was a fair price.

well at least you found out before he got you for $60, you can always call him on his B.S. and bargain the price down. I mean in my eyes its only money, I would cut a corner somewhere else that I would normally spend a few extra $$ on and use it for this guy. If you never see them around you, and you really want the fish, talk the dude down and go for it. thats just my opinion, and what I did. I never see these fish in my Lfs I caught him swimming in the back of a packed peacock tank, the guy said he was suprised no one noticed him before. I threw him $10 and called it a day. lucky I guess
