Theres a store by my house that sells of 8-10 inch natives. I need help picking one out, that u can keep in a 100 for life, and doesn't need a heater. Dimensions are 72X18X18.

PS. I dont like keeping my fish to crowded

There are many options with a 100. Just about any native fish outside of bass, gars, or channel cats. All depends on what you like. For me, I'd go with rock bass or pickerels with a couple of bullheads.

some sunfish maybe.

how big do rock bass and bullheads get?
Rock bass- a foot and a half, Bullheads- yellow and black both get to 20 inches... I wouldn't do either in a 100 gallon. I would go with a large school of perch or bluegill....

patience is a virtue

give us more than a few hours before you give up

ok North American natives in a 100 gal

if you want schools, i would go with shiners, killies, top minnows, and such. research Wanstead style planted tanks, you could keep very large (30 or more) schools of shiners, chubs, etc

for sunfish type fish, I would put about 6-7 warmouth, they get large, easy to feed, and are not very aggressive, you will have to preform large water changes each week.

other types of sunfish will have 2 have lots of structure to break line of sight, but it can work

you may look into orange spot sunfish, or bantams they are smaller and fairly peaceful

bluegill, longears, pumkinseeds, and greens, you may have trouble with more than about 2-3 in a 100 gal (especially if they pair off)

Blue spots, flyers, black banded, are very difficult to keep, picky about food etc. but would be fine in large schools.

thanks hmt, i will do more research on the fish you listed, and will pick some
