how many piranha could i house in a 30g tank?

im curious like whats the most aggressive whats the smallest etc.

any and all advise pleasee

in a 30 gal...I would say none...you could get away with one for a while but he would eventually need more room to swim...if you are planning on getting a bigger tank soon (like a 55 or a 75) then I would say you could use the 30 for a growout tank for a group of 3...other than that when it comes to the smallest I am not sure I think redbellies are one of the smaller species, normally maxing out at around 10in although I have one at around 12. When it comes to the most aggressive I would say an elongatus or any of the rhoms

You could get by with a juvenile/sub-adult Sanchezi, or Juvenile most anything else but a 30 gallon is not a good tank for any Piranha.

thats a very tiny tank so a group of any piranha would be a no no. if your looking for agression then something from the serrasalmus family may be good or bad. seeing as how all of my serras are extremely shy. except my largest at nine inches. once another fish is introduced to the tank then you will see the true predator come out. i never feed live. im too worried about introduceing parasites ect. plus i think a fish tank is too small for a predatory fish to chase another fish around without slamming glass. if you still want a piranha get a bigger tank.bigger is better....

My advice if you want Piranha would be to turn the 30g into a sump, and shop around for a bigger tank. You could keep Piranha in a 75g pretty easily, maybe even keep some in a 55g. Problem is piranha strike their prey to hard to live in a 30g even if the breed was small enough to fit in one. They'll hit their heads against the glass with enough force to hurt themselves. If you absolutely cannot upgrade bigger then a 30g then Exodons are going to be as close to piranha as you'll be able to keep.

feeder gold fish to Quarantine as many as you want:D

What about whimple piranha, aka C.Mento, mostly a scale feeder... max. out at about 4"-5"
.

Thought about that, but whimples prefer to live in shoals, and when they panic they dart. Some my argue yes on them, but I don't think a 30s big enough even for them.

30g is what, 36x12x16? should be ok for one sanchezi. they get to about 8"
