new to mfk and i just got a new tank, i am cycling it at the moment with gold fish but after 2 days the water smells already, any ides why or how i fix this or any other fish i can use to cycle other than gold fish. Thank you!

i have a 29 gallon eclipse 2 with the bio wheel and 5 gold fish, i feed them once daily with a little flakes and pellets.

Take some of your bio media to your pet store and ask if they will kindly trade you for some used established media. This will seed your tank. That is just one route.

do you mean taking it to a store to switch out the wheel for one with algae? sorry i am not too familiar with the terms yet, and about how long does it take for the tank to be okay to put other fish in?

You need to test your parameters. When you have enough bacteria to take your tank from 5 ppm (parts per million) to 0 ammonia in 12 hours, your tank is cycled. And yes, ask if the can even give you a few rocks from the bottom. Any bacteria will help boost your levels.
