I have a Giant Gourami and it appears that she has flukes. I've had her for about 4-5 months and always change her tank 2-3 times a week the max. She has a great filtration system though one day I noticed she was leaning towards the side a little bit and decided to test her water.
Her nitrites were very high! I quickly changed her water and added salt. Though those few days she leaned more and more to the side and just spent all of her time at the bottom of the tank. Then she started banging against the glass sometimes then I knew it was getting serious. Since the weather where I live changes at the drop of a hat I decided to add a heater and raised her temp to 76-78. Then the "flashing" or banging against the glass got worse and now she refuses to eat. She isn't leaning on her side as much as she used too but there seems to be like a geletin on her eyes...almost as if it was a dusty contact.
I believe she has flukes and bought Fluke- Tabs but wanted to ask MFK before I did anything.
Sorry if it is so long, I just want to make sure my great fish makes it through this. Since she means a lot to me.

Thanks.

(I'm sorry I am reposting though I need help ASAP and I haven't gotten a reply on my last post.)

She is about 4.5-5 inches and in a 30 gallon tank, she was going into a 55 gallon that I just bought though once she was going in there... she got sick:(

Hi,

Nitrite poisoning is serious. Get some bottled bacteria and spike your biofiltration. I think the lack thereof is the main cause of your problem. Also, get a new test kit and double-check water parameters.

I had to put her in another tank right away that night since my mother put her with another gourami and when I came home she was almost attacked to death. I used all old water from her tank and put her in that tank. She recovered 110% in the next two weeks with clean water and a great diet.
The tank was on and off the first 2 months, her ammonia got very high at one point though my mother was able to get it under control when I was out of town for a weekend.

Update:

I've medicated the tank and now it seems she is improved by maybe 1-2%. Her skin seems to be shedding or I think some would call it excess mucus? All over her body now, plus she is still leaning towards her side. Though it could be caused by stress since I just did a 15% water change between her treatments.
