I havent been keeping 100% upkeep on my tank lately while trying to make enough money for a 90 gallon set up!!!!!!!! atm my only tank 55 growout has had a amonia spike to 1.0 ppm and my nitrate is at 5.0 ppm........ how would i get them amonia down on this tank??????? i might plant it if that will help.......

enough of the 55 on to the 90...... im getting this tank in a few months and im planing to plant it and have plent of driftwood and smooth rocks but im really stuck on wat to stock it wit....... right now the stock that im moveing uo from the 55 is 1 delhezi bichir 1 senguals bichir 1 ornate bichir 1 palmas B. bichir and a 8" raphel catfish........ the final stock from what ive been thinking is
6- delhezi bichirs
6- clown loaches
1- bristelnose pleco
2- wild oscars
2- syno eruptus
it will have 2 hob and 1 canister filter so will be well filter and planted........ plant will probly 2 amazon swords maybe sometype of val....... u think the stocking is gona be a bit much? any thoughts are helpful!!!!!!!

As far as your 55 water changes and you could use one of the water conditioners that bind ammonia so that it is no longer harmful to the fish. As far as the nitrAtes wasn't sure if you meant nitrItes if it is nitrates 5.0 isn't bad as with freshwater the norm is 10-15ppm, if its nitrItes immediate water changes to get that down and maybe a water conditioner to lock it. Amquel+ is supposed to lock ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

Water changes are the only way to sort the water problems out, even when planted you must keap up water changes, plants wont get rid of ammonia or nitrites.

As for your 90 plans, sounds very overstocked to me, and fish like Oscars will absolutely love spending all their time destroying and uprooting your lovely plants.

yea i didnt really want the S. eruptus but a lfs by my house has a couple 8 inchers by 1 get one free......... the main fish i want are the oscars and bichirs......... they will all have plenty of hideing spots and ive had a 2 oscars that did fine with some very large sword........ dont know much about the val gona test it out but i have a feeling its not gona work :( ..... there will be a upgrade in a year or 2 atleast....... maybe start to breed delhezis and or wild oscars........

yea its pretty stocked the filters are gona be 2 aquaclear 110's and a fx5........ all but the FX5 is already being used on the 55 will probly be useing atleast 30 gals of water from the 55 gallon tank......... then gona let it "cycle" the rest of the way........... i also plan on putting some type of powerhead in the tank.........

sounds like you REALLY need a water change man, and i'd keep doing em every couple of weeks. Also, if you keep getting high ammonia levels, then you are overfeeding your fish.

yea i feed them every 2 or 3 days and i guess im gona start doing WCs the day of feedings till i get amonia in check the thing i dont get is my water is crystal clear and i just started to get algae growth and i havent had any for about a year........
