one of my tank thermometers broke and i think it released a chemical in the tank cuz after a while "rust like" or rust colored stains started to form on the bottom of my glass tank.. i tried to scrub it with a brush and algae scrubbers but no matter how hard i try it won't come off.. anyone have any idea how to remove it?

need help

Have you removed all the fish from this tank, sounds like it if you've been scrubbing it. You might try calling the manufacturer who made the thermo. As long as the tank is empty then you may try acetone or bleach, but you have to be very cautious to not use to much try to clean quickly then flush thoroughly multiple time. Calling the manufacturer is where I would start so you can id what is used & I bet they would know the safest, quickest way to remove the stain. BTW who is the manufacturer/maker of the thermometer?

Have you tried a razor blade?

Toilet bowl cleaner will remove almost anything, but you have to rinse the tank VERY well.

I dont think it will be the thermometer since non digital thermemeters use red coloured alcohol (fish safe) in case of breakages. If your really keen to remove a stubborn stain from glass you can use car cutting polish which will actually remove a thin layer of glass. I have used this on 20 year old hardness scaled tanks with good results.

there were fish in the tank.. this actually happen a couple of months ago.. i just left the stain till now and since i moved the tank to a new location i wanted to clean the stains.. the fish were fine so it wasn't any harm to them.. the stain is just really unsightly..

i'm not sure if can contact the manufacturer since they are from china.. i'm from manila by the way.. thanks

i'm pretty sure it was fromt he thermometer since the stain formed the same time it broke.. i think its the red alcohol your talking about since it did leave a red to rust colored stains.. it was harmless to the fish that was there though as what you have specified..

i'll try the polish you just said when i have an opportunity to get another tank to move the fish in it.. thanks
