i have to say, that this is the most complicated thing ive ever tried to set up!! the directions where crap! took me atleast 1-1.5 hour to figure things out.

so anyway, i finally figured it out (i think) but it seems like its really not sucking strong as i expected it would do. i tried placing my hand on the vac part of the filter, but it wont suck my hand in. is it suppose to be like that??? the fountain part(i dont know what its called, the one with the pipe with holes) is working, and spits out water pretty good(strong) so does that mean that the vac part of the filter is working as well??

im asking this cause i see fish poop right below the vac(sucking) part of the filter, swriling around, but it wont suck the poop in!! its so fraustrating!

hope you understand my question hehe thanks

It's probably running as it's supposed to. Check out this thread on this page with a similar question about the FX5 which moves a LOT more water.

Once you fill it with media, a place it below the tank, you are probably only moving about 150 GPH, and this wouldn't produce a lot of suction. That being said, however, a low flow rate is great for the effective bio filtration that the Eheim is known for.

Have you got both the double taps fully open? I get loads of flow with my 2217, infact I had to close the taps slightly because I was getting too much flow on my discus tank.
On a side note it took me about 10 minutes to have mine out of the box and up and running.

the knob for adjustment is facing upward, so i think its open.

the flow rate is pretty good. my problem is the sucking of water/dirt/poop part of the filter. i dont think its sucking that good

Is the flow of water creating a current that comes back to your intake? I had to put a AC110 on the other side of my tank to catch debris.............I don't think any canister sucks enough water to really get all the gunk out........you just need to create a good flow.

i have a penguin over head filter, a sponge filter, and this eheim 2217 in a 30 gal, so i think the flow rate would be pretty good lol (my fish is pretty hardy, and im about to upgrade to a bigger one). with that said, i think there is no problem with the water flow. im just really concern if the vac is vaccuming enough. again, i see dirt/poop right next to the vac but it seems like it wont take it in.

what do you mean by good flow? and how to i do this exactly? thanks

By good flow I mean current and direction. So you want to make sure that you are pointing the spray bar so that as the current grabs debris, it carries it as close to the intake as possible. Again though, these things aren't sucking that hard to be picking up everything.

My 2217 doesn't really instantly "suck" all the crap right into the intake, so it takes a good tank flow to allow the stuff to stay in the water where it will eventually be taken into the filter.
