Need help sexing, Managuense cichlid...

So I've acquired a beautiful 10" inch jag today. I rescued him from my LFS.. I have been eye balling him for quite some time now. I suspect male, but what do you guys think? This is my first time keeping this beautiful species.. and I admit, I know nothing about. He has a sunken stomach, but is however eating like there's no tomorrow. Should I deworm him? Thanks in advance..

Yes. worms will not decrease their appetite, deworming couldnt hurt. as for sex i cant tell by ur pics but applause for the damn good pics :clap:

Thanks for the suggestion, Woofy.. I'll let him relax in his new home for now, and observe him. I will deworm him next week.. After reading numerous threads and looking at pics all day. I think it's safe to say that mine is most likely a male.. His tail is his only flaw IMO. But I like him.. This forum is awesome by the way..
 
Bummer.. I was hoping he would be a male. I've never seen a large male in person, so I have nothing to compare him to. Depending on his mood, sometimes his lateral line dies however fade. Revealing only the black speckles that you see on his entire body. Is this normal, and does that mean anything at all? To me, he looks like a male that just needs a little TLC. Let's hope he is one.. Otherwise I would have to resort to plan B and find her a mate ;-)

I will try to get a full shot of him later tonight. Maybe that would make it a bit easier to determine..
 
i say female like fishman09 becasue of the lateral line pattern. and like him i have a female also which i just bought a little male for. hopefully they pair up and she doesnt rip his head off like she has done to many of my other fish. mines about 5 inches now and very beautiful too.
 
Ya i think female from the pictures but its hard to tell by them. Every jaguar i got was female to i want a male.
 
I've got to get a picture up when I get home so I can check what mine is, I thought mine was a male but seems to have a lateral line. I've been trying to find a female, I guess I should check for sure the sex before I end up with two females :-D
