I am thinking of reduing my boring 55 gal. Cichlids are good, but if you got limited tank space, i can get boring with just the commons. Right now I have a 5" common sengal bicher, 4" albino bicher, 4" great lookiking 4.5" pictus, 7" blood parrot, 3" parrot (no idea of type. its an oddball. Its mouth closes completly, but it has the regular parrot shape, quite a good cometedor though), 4" Female RD(Breeding causes treoble for everyone) 3" JD. I want to save back the bichers, the big and small parrot, and the pictus is awsome. But they are still on the maybe list. The most fun i have had was with a 7" e-cat. Give some suggestions plese. doesn't need to be several fish.

How about some surface dwellers? If you like bichirs make it a African theme tank. Add some African butterfly fish. These are strictly surface dwellers add you could add at least three to the tank. I would compliment it with a African spotted bush fish also called African spotted leaf fish. It is actually a labyrinth fish. Good luck!

get some oscars

No you cant do taht man, that tank is not big enough, go with like some bala sharks thats what i have with my green terror and oscar in a 75 and there great there quick, there fins are nice and there good fish, always doing something.

Balas get close to a foot. With the pictus you could go with more of those and be alright with the 55g size. The JD and the RD might pound the other fish when they get bigger.

Sounds like you want some excitement in your tank.

Why not go with a species only Exodon tank? I've watched a group of exo's take down a small mouse in record time. Or get something like a Salvini that will constantly fight with the JD over a fake piece of driftwood from mallwort. Maybe a Convict and a Firemouth for some color.

I keep picturing those bichers getting slurped up like spagetti noodles if you tried to add that got any size to it so maybe a school of pictus wouldn't be so bad. And they are very active. I like coming home and hearing my fish biting the glass because he's hungry or maybe he just wants me to stick my hand in the tank so he can take a chunk outta me. Just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to know that no matter how much I spoil my fish it still hates my guts. :D

Oh I forgot to say I also have a 5.5" syno eurpterus in there that isn't going anywhere. I have kept african butterflies before, cool to feed crickits. I already know how to care for leopard cetenopamas and would like them very much, but its a small town and i can't get them in. as for the pictus, there is a 4 line t the store as imressive as mine, costs $14 though. Exodons are cool, but i like to have the freedome to make a few changes every now and then. the store got about 25 of the little devils when they bought the store and now that they are gone the store refuses to have anything to do with them. What I really want is another e-cat. my last one swam through a corse of rings to be had fed, knew a lot of tricks for a fish. but Like I said, small city. I am setting up a pond in my basement, but thats a slow project, and i need a quick fix, that will not cost much
