I just bought a new tank from someone and it came with a few fish. One of these is a catfish, that I was told was a striped catfish. The thing is this fish does not have stripes at all, and doesn't resemble the pictures of striped catfish that I've looked up. My main concern is to know more about him, and what he's compatible with, as well as what I need to be feeding him. The previous owners sent him with African Cichlid food, which he is most certainly not any information that can lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No,not a cichlid but it is an African catfish...Synodontis eupterus,I think and it looks to be a good age and size with that long finnage.

Thanks! That looks like her(or him), any idea what sex? It definitely has some pretty flowing fins. I have no idea at all about the age but it's about 7in long and very fat. I thought about getting rid of it because I was afraid it would eat my Pseudotropheus salousi fry (1.5in) but it seems pretty peaceful and un-interested in eating them so far. My problem now Is that it won't eat the food they sent with it. Shrimp pellets? Any suggestions on food?

Odd that the catfish wont eat what the previous owner was feeding it but try some kind of sinking cichlid pellets, the right kind would be better for it than shrimp pellets.....sorry,no idea on whichever sex it might be.

They sent both shrimp pellets and cichlid pellets but both float. I'm headed to buy some sinking pellets now.
