need help to setup 75 g tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
filter and a heater.....what kind of set up are you looking for?

will thats all you need then.....water, filter, and a heater.

the first thing you need to do is look up and read about cycling a tank if you haven't already done so

the second thing is considering how you want the tank to look, my personal taste is getting some black matte Krylon Fusion paint for plastics and painting the bottom and back with a few coats and using Flourite black sand as substrate with some driftwood

Also, please take time in considering the type and brand of filter and heater you will purchase (I recommend Rena Filstar xP3 and Visi-therm Stealth 250W heater for your setup). If you want some water movement or surface agitation I recommend Maxi-Jet pump/powerheads.

A thermometer wouldn't hurt either. I don't trust stick-ons with tanks that have thicker glass like 75s, the Coralife Digital Thermometer would be great for a 75.

Goldfish filter no heater...angels filter, heater.

Yeah, you don't want to mix goldfish and angels. I started out with Goldfish and I highly recommend it. They are hardy fish and something like comet goldfish are really cool looking too. You won't need a heater for them so you can wait with that purchase. Once you've kept some goldfish alive for a year, you can start experimenting with more exotic fish. It's a common mistake for a beginner to buy a bunch of really awesome fish, only to have them die and then give up the hobby.
Before you get any fish though, you should get a filter and start a fishless cycle. Check here http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-Fishless-Cycle . You will need a test kit to do this. If you just put some fish in to cycle the tank, it will take a lot longer.

I started out with a 75 also, much better than starting small and having to upgrade later. Although I will eventually have to upgrade for my arowana a 75 gal is a good start off tank in my opinion.
