Hello All,

I am trying to breed Severums (Red Spotted/Gold), but I am unable to find out the gender. I tried the placing different face markings in separate tanks. They dont seem to interact much.

Can anyone help me identify or provide any tips to get started?

Any pics?
It is harder on golds and reds due to selective breeding hiding some of the wild traits, but we may be able to guess.

Attached Photos.

I couldnt vent the gold ones. But here are two of them one smaller , one bigger.

There are 8 severum total. One Green/Black, One blue/redshoulder, two golds , 3 redspot. Not sure which is ideal to put together.

The reds are hard to tell, but I think I’m seeing a lot of females. Even gold males should show a bit of worming.
Only one that isn’t the same species is the red shoulder, so that’s the only one I wouldn’t em say is fine to bred with the rest.

Thanks you Deadeye. I will give the Redspoted Male (big one) and one of the golden one a try.

Is it possible to breed the red shoulder (Heros SP Roktiel) with Heros Liberifer (Red mouthbrooders).

I’m not sure if they can breed, due mainly to two different breeding styles. That said, hybrids also don’t sell very well or can muddy up pure strains later on, so it’s usually advised against.
