Over there
So I just moved my baby TSN and RTC into my 150g not long ago. They are both about 4 inches long and they are with a large clown knife (about 14") and a large endli bichir (12"+). They were both happy and doing fine and ate right away and continued to eat that week. Lately, the TSN hasn't been eating. He never hunts when there's food so I always have to drop the food right in front of his face then he'll eat it, but now he wont even eat when I drop it in front of him. Suggestions? I haven't noticed any weight loss yet.

What are you trying to feed him? Mine doesn't leave food in the tank for more than seconds... He is on live feeders and krill

He was eating massivore pellets and bloodworms and pretty much anything I threw in the tank. Now he doesn't seem to want anything. He just chills in his corner of the tank and sits there, occasionally he swims on top of this large piece of drift wood and sits at the very top of it, but that's about it.

Does he look bloated or is he swimming at an awkward angle?

No. It swims perfectly fine. I don't notice anything wrong with him. He acts and looks the exact same as he always has except that now he's not eating

How long ago has he lost interest in chasing the food and how long ago did he stop eating altogether?

It happens sometimes. It happened with many of my predatory cats and TSNs too. More often than not the reasons are unknown.

It makes me think of new bacterial cultures that your fish is exposed to in the new tank that they have no immunity against: usually the dynamics is like you describe - the fish look fine, start to eat (early stage - contract new bacteria), then lose appetite (bacteria settles and starts growing), then stop eating (bacteria grow). Eventually, their immune system finds the antibodies and kills the bacteria and everything goes back to normal. Other times, antibiotics are needed.

Other reasons could be parasites, harassment, swallowing an inedible object, lazy digestion or even an intestinal clog (catalyzed by high nitrates in a study of goldfish, for example), any changes in the water chemistry (different fish can react differently), diet changes, water temp, etc. And sometimes, as mentioned, nothing makes sense and it just comes and goes. Troubleshoot now. 1-2 weeks are usually fine. 2-3 weeks, I'd start to worry. But as an example, the longest some of my cats refused to eat was 4-5 months. Got thin but survived and rebounded.

if the fish Isent skinny he should be fine. when I had my wolffish and gar when they were larger they had times were they wouldnt eat for a week. do a water change tomorrow and wait till the next day to try and feed him. Fish can go along time with out food, hill eat when hes ready :) One of my payaras stoped eating for 2 weeks and then the next day he ate like there was nothing wrong. fish are funny and will do things like that.

I got him like a month ago when it was only an inch long. It chased and hunted for food for the first few days, but then stopped once he realized that the food drops right in front of him every time. He's stopped eating for about a week now and still acts the exact same.

well now his health is deteriorating. his fins are clamped and he's still not eating. i don't know what to do. i've already placed him in a quarantine tank.
