I have just picked up a group of three convict cichlids at around 5inches, i've had them for about 2-3 days, i would have thought that at this size they would have started breeding. Theres not much of a difference between them just that one has a little bump on it's head, but they were in a tank with big malawis that have nibbled their fins so i can't see if theirs a male judging on their fins. I know that cons are common but they are gorgeous and have great marking. And i haven't kept cons before. So i'm going to have a go at venting them, i don't know the differnce in the vents, i was wondering if anybody could post some picks of a male and females vent. Thanks.

I would just give them a little more time to settle, beleive me, soon youll know whos who

how would you actually vent fish? and convicts will breed if they are the dominant species in the tank so they have someone to push around :P

cons breed in any tank regardless if they're dominant or not

Convicts will NOT breed "regardless"

Remember you still need a ..... FEMALE!

Surprising as it is, they STILL require both sexes.

Females will have some orange on the sides. If none of yours do, you have a bunch of males, and no, they won't breed eventually :)
