Need help Vieja or Black belt

I don't understand what you need help with. A black belt is a vieja. Vieja maculicauda is the scientific name.
I didnt know that. I dont know much about this cichlid. So, a Synspilum, Redheads,Twobands, Blackbelt, and a Vieja is the same cichlids. Now i have to do some reserch on maculicauda. Its pretty hard to find this cichlid around here. They go for alot money in this part of Jersey. So, when i seen that the lfs had them for sale, i had to jump on it. Thank you.

Most all are very good looking. And many are hard to distinguish for certain but luckily the black belt is. They can get large 12-16 inches and can be very aggressive. They are omnivores and will not do well with live plants. mmmm that is probably the most pertinent info.
Your fish are blackbelts and blackbelt = Vieja maculicauda
A redhead = Vieja synspilum.
A twoband = Vieja (Paratheraps) bifasciata
Vieja is a genus. There are several species in the genus.
Many of those species have been placed in Paratheraps however (a different genus).

Ad Konings had an old book on Central Americans with loads of good photos. Prolly pick it up pretty cheap now, but almost all the names at least the genus ones are changes now. lol
