Yesterday I noticed that my yellow lab was hanging out by my heater. He is often vertical with his mouth pointing up. He can still swim fine when my golden cichlid chases him out of his heater spot every once in a while. He also lies at the bottem of the tank (sand) , but not on his side. There are plenty of hiding spots in my tank. No visible injuries. Subjected to normal mbuna bullying but nothing too much. Take a look at the pics. I checked my water params. and I have less than .25 Ammonia (probably 0 actually), 0 nitrites, < 5 nitrates. It is a 30g all mbuna all male with a rena smartheater and a rena xp2 canister, so i have plenty of current. I also added a air stone for more O2 but it didnt help. All of my other fish are just fine and are actually doing well. I only got this fish a week ago. What's up! Stocking list: 1 Golden Cichlid, 1 Demasoni, 1 Kenyi, 2 Yellow labs. Pics below. Some you need to tilt your head for!

He looks like he's just trying to hide. You said the golden cichlid has been chasing him around? Those are usually auratus which can be really aggressive. My subdominant male msobo acts the same way. My guess is this guy just ranks really low in the tank and is trying not to be noticed.

yea he just gettin beat up by your other fish

when you see them doing that they're essentially trying to give up, and if your golden cichlid is still chasing him out he's not getting a break

if i were you I'd take him out to give him a break and put him in another tank

how many fish are in the tank?

nvrmind just saw that you wrote the stock

this guy is probly just the underdog of the tank, there's always gonna be one

btw that kenyi will probly become one of the meanest in there

take the guy that beats him hp 4 an hour rearange the caves see what happens

Why is he gasping now. Plenty of O2 and perfect params!

Read the previous replies. The lab is getting the snot chased outta him. That's why he's gasping, you probably caught him hiding from his bully.
