I am setting up my three 75 gallon tanks next to eachother, to look like one big tank. Unfortunately, one of the stands is 3.5 inches shorter than the others. It is an iron stand. What do?
Hello; I raised the height of an iron stand many years ago with solid wood blocks. I believe that current dimensional lumber is in actual measure smaller than named. A 4x4 post may actually be 3 and 1/2 inches on a side or very close to it. If this proves to be so, such a post could be cut to length so that it fits under the front legs of the stand when laid on a side. A second post cut to length and placed under the rear legs. Or cut to run from front to back on each side.
Keep in mind when selectiing such a post to sight along the length while in the hardware/lumber store and select to straightest among them. many will have a significant bow.
It may well be necessary to have shims available, both to level and match the short stand to the other stands as well as the other tall stands may need shims to be level. I prefer metal shims that do not compress with the full load on tanks.
