I have had this Chalceus erythrurus in my community tank with my CL's for almost two years and up until a few days ago he has done very well.
The area all around his mouth is very swollen, his bottom lip protrudes a lot further out then it normally does it is so swollen, the whole area around and just behind the gills is also swollen and has a red coloration to it (i think you can see it in one of the pics). The second pic down you can see the mouth of the other chalceus that is in the tank to get an idea of what it normally looks like. The fish hasnt been eating at all, all the other fish in the tank seem fine though, all are eating and going about their normal business.
I just tested the water, 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite, ~15 ppm nitrate. I havent added any new fish to the tank for a long time, has probably been a year since i added any new fish. I am kind of at a loss as to what could be causing this, i dont think it would be a parasite just because nothing new has been added in so long. Could it be some kind of fungus or infection? Any ideas of what could be causing it and possible treatments/solutions would be very much appreciated, i am setting up a small hospital tank now.
