Hi, i am not sure if i could post it here but i am new here. I have a 55 gallon FW fish tank with central and south American cichlids and also 3 red eared slider turtles. It is bieng filtered by a new wet dry filter i got which can handle up to a 125 gallon and a fluval 304. My question is ,can i add water to the tank without using the conditioner or will it destroy my beneficial bacteria?

I usually add the water to the wet dry where the pump is.(water in my tank evaporates quickly)

Thank YOU

You should treat the water you are adding to your tank with a water conditioner. Prime is a good one. Whoa that's alot of oscars for a 55g. I think you are gonna get flamed.

is that 5 O's a JD and some fire belly's? :screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

is that a grow out tank?? please tell me you have a larger tank to put these guys in.

what does flamed mean?

flamed http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flamed#

being attacked online/on a forum.

to be flamed.

usually overly harsh, and often using references to personal information.

flames are an unfortunate, but inevitable, element of unmoderated (or user moderated)forums. often done "anon".

also known as falmes.
dood, cucu/jets/beerie/hsh/phh/whoever is flaming the **** out of me. time to go. i really strongly dislike her/him and don't feel like sitting here being abused.

But you didn't answer my second question, will it destroy beneficial bacteria?

City water has a small amount of chlorine in it...

Chlorine can/will kill bacteria...

The chlorine levels of city water vary considerably from city to city...

Adding enough water to an aquarium to replace evaporation is very (very very very) unlikely to add enough chlorine to the system to be detrimental to the bacterial colony...

Without knowing specific details of your water, your aquarium and your exact replacement method could anyone say yes or no with 100% certaincy... but many will try...

In personal experience with my local city water... I'm willing to do up to a 20% water change without adding dechlorinator... although dechlorinator is cheap enough that I typically add it anyway...

Personally, when adding 5 gallons or so to a larger tank (75 gal+) I do not add dechlorinator...

Whether or not to add dechlorinator will be a personal choice... let us know what you decide and how it works out for you...
