i got some bad advice i believe and didn't like where things were headed on another forum site ....so now i'm here....not looking to go back to the other one.

i got 2 tanks i'm concerned with and would like some help with but if you don't have knowledge please don't post.

lets start off with the uncycled 29 gallon tall..... tanks has heater set at 82 it has an emperor 400 filter, sand substrate, minimal decor,

current readings from my api master test kit are as follows
ph-7.6
ammonia. 1ppm
nitrate and nitrite 0

nitrate and nitrite were the same before big water changes but the ammonia was around 5+ppm

the people on the other website suggested doing several 50% -75% water changes throughout the day..... this has brought my ph from 6.4 to 7.4 in one day...... thats bad right!!

also the tap water is 8.4 out of the faucet.

where am i at and what should i do or stop doing

Do you have fish in the tank, then what fish, how many? or what fish is planned for the tank? how many days into cycling?

Also what about your second tank, is it cycled, have fish in it? What fish (planned), how many? How many days into cycling?

Assuming your query it is about tank cycling and getting the parameters right. Getting more info about the above points will help getting more better advise.

And of course your Nitrate and Nitrate reading zero due to tank is not completely cycled yet. You will get some trace of Nitrate readings when it is fully cycled, normally.

As previous poster stated you'll need to answer those questions. To spped up the cycle try using tetra safe start. Great product never failed me
