I have a Red Tail Catfish that I count as part of the family. His name is Poseidon. But, I ran into an issue with my current tank. Well the tank works fine.. But, its not quite big enough to support him later on. Right now he's about 6 or 7 inches big and is currently inside a 46 gallon bow front fish tank. I am not quite sure how/what I need to build him a bigger tank. I would like to make a 300g tank or something close to it that way I don't have to worry to much about him. As I don't want to give him back to the store since I don't want someone else hurting him or killing him. I really need help with this. Thank you so much.

really? 1000g for 1 rtc? ok realistically forget abput volume... your catfish will only use the bottom. he will grow up to a likely size around 4' growing super quickly in the firat few years. you will want a pond or pool to keep him for life. a tank with more than 5' width would be plenty as they arent super active. they are bottomless pits for food and need frequent waterhanges to offset the gazillion pounds of food they will consume and poop. ur 46g should b good for about the first 3 months of its life then it needs a major upgrade. good luck

Yea 1000g really isn't that much. Personally I would build a 10x6x3 if I had one. That comes out to over 1300 gallons.

Sent from my mind to my fingers to my phone to the MFK servers to you

It shows to repeat how all the new players should read and be aware of fish that you get before purchasing. You already made progress in joining this forum and asking for help. The fast solution is to buy one of those portable pools which gives you a lot of time to figure out what to do. Your RTG will grow really quick don't over stuff it and let it grow a bit slower. Good luck!!

IMO unless cost isn't an issue I would just get a kiddie pool and have him in a "pond". It's a cheap, perfectly acceptable home for one, for life, if you get a large enough pool.
