I am just getting into breeding and I love the way cherry red shrimp look so I want to breed them for fun basically before I get into anything where you need alot of hard experience. I don't want to go buy something extremly expensive to breed and then the fish die because I am not experienced enough and I don't care much for guppies :P

I currently have an 8" Regular like Wal-mart pleco and a 15" one. Along with a 10 year old 10" Jack Dempsey. I know the Jack needs to go so I am gonna try to rehome him to someone or post him on craigslist. The only problem is will my plecos eat my baby shrimp? I had looked into sand and my set up is a 180 Gallon I want to do the White Mystic Sand 2. Along with a rock formation that I have with some Java moss. I just want to make sure that the plecos won't accidentally suck up the shrimp because my plecos are kinga big.

Yes I know that a 180g is MORE then enough to breed a few Cheery shrimp but it was hell getting this tank for me and I don't wish to talk my parents into letting me bring another smaller tank into their home. I would like to do a GOOD shrimp colony and maybe get into selling them for fun.

Another question. If I was to get a huge colony of shrimp and wanted to get back into cichlids would baby shrimp be a good live food? Or is this something that shouldn't be done.

Thanks for reading !

If possible, partition/block off a portion of the 180g for your shrimp. With a tank that big, you'll never see your shrimp.

you could definatly use the baby's for feeders. But isn't 180 a little overkill? I'd reccomend the suggestion above and using a divider or sumthin to cut the tank to a smaller dimmension. Use the other side for somehting else that willt take up some space.

I would suggest a net breeder hung on the tank for a start

I have seen several sizes of small acrylic tanks that can be used the same way for fry or female holding tanks

short of that I would recommend lots of plants including mosses

good luck!
