I just got this guy and I've read some stuff on the internet saying that the older the fish gets, it requires more salt? Have any of you guys had this fish? I need some information because I have this guy with my FH and I don't think its safe to put salt in the tank? Any input would be appreciated, feed me your knowledge!

Would the fish be okay if I don't add any salt?
Would my FH be okay if I add salt for the catfish?

the catfish needs marine salt added, and your flowerhorn will not tolerate that long term....won't work out together as tankmates in the long term

How big is the cat fish... they can do fine in the fresh water for awhile but when they get to be 6 or 7 inches they should be introduced to light brackish... as they mature and grow it is best to do slow process of more concentrated brackish water increasing the amount of salt until you actually acheive a marine tank with full salt by the time they are mature adults.... if they are not acclimated to salt eventually they will turn blackish... indicating a skin problem which will eventually kill them... unfortunatly the LFS never tell anyone what is required for them to live a full life....so if yours is still a baby you have time to set up another tank later....if not your better off returning him to lfs..the flower horn can not tolerate salt in that amount..
