Hi there all i am a new member here and im looking for some help with the design of a stand that will fit a Corner Pentagon tank and take the silly amounts of weight. I am looking for any information, plans, pics and materials needed. Here are the basics of my tanks so that you can get a better idea. The measurements are in Centimeters but i have added what these values are in inches also in the red boxed area.

The Glass is 10mm thick and the tank its self weighs around the 50 kg mark and will hold around 50kg in substrate all in all i think im looking at half a ton in weight all together !!! including decor/rocks/woods and i really need this to be safe as i have 2 young daughters.

The ideal height i would like the stand to be is 2ft high and im sort of on a budget so cannot really go forking out lots of cash.

any info, guides, plans, pics are greatly appreciated.

I can't think of a safer aquarium than one that fits into a corner.

modifying a design here on the diy forum shouldn't be hard at all.

one suggesting for peace of mind would be to add a piece of ply or 2x4 that would cleat to the wall near the top and bottom of the stand; allowing you to screw into some studs on both walls.

my thread should be in my siggy, but if you have moar questions just reply back.

another helpful idea....

instead of looking at the aquarium, a pencil, a piece of paper, and a calculator, get a pece of cardboard and cut it to fit the corner so it hits the wall and not the base.

design it with what's called "live" measurements.

it's a cabinet maker thing...lol.

thanks for your reply and is it computer software your talking about if it is i tried to google "Live Measurments" but nothin came up, also i dont think i can tie it to the wall just because it will not butt up to the wall on 1 angle of the corner due to boxing for pipework ie plumbing for house. There are probably a few ways round this.

i need a really sturdy design to take all that huge weight but ideally need to be free standing.

when i start i will post pics ect but for now i need to concentrate on a very sturdy design which is actually hard when your not a woodworker hah still looking for more opinions and even designs what people can recommend.

You have 5 corners... start with five 2 x 4's, one at each corner. Frame those in and the stand should be plenty sturdy. The lower the stand the lower the center of gravity will be and the harder it will be to accidentally tip... if you want the stand to be free standing. Like wise if you build the bottom of the stand to protrude out in front of the front of the tank you are adding tip stability.

I would make the back of the stand extend two inches past the back sides of the tank. Then you could put the stand against the wall and drill through this 2 inch flange for your hoses, lines etc.
