We don't know, probably a well protected trade secret.

It is most likely a sulphur-based compound that will react with toxic ammonia (NH3) and "bind" it into less toxic ammonium (NH4+). I would not try experimenting with this at home

yea but for now could I just add some store bought ammonia remover to add to the sulphur solution

I don't think there is any powdered, fish safe, ammonia remover on the market apart from Seachem Safe
