Whats good MFKers? My name is von and i need some info a.k.a. HELP. I have a 150 gallon cichlid aquarium filtered by 1 fluval 405 with diy spray bar and 1(walmart filter)aquatech30-60. The two together seem to be doing an okay job. The water is clear and funk free. But I am getting turned off by how the intake tubes of the filters are looking inside of the tank. Just looks unnatural. Anyways, ive been looking around for information on wet/dry sumps and pvc or diy box overflows. I pretty much got the principles down on the wet/dry sump but more info is better then some info. How many gallons per hour should the overflow feed the sump? Pretty much any info would be super uber helpful. I just recently started working night shift 3 days out the week so i have a whole lotta time on my hands, and my hands wanna waste that time on the tank.

Tank and residents:
150 gall-
1-10" albino oscar (D-BO)
1-8" managuense(KIMBO)
2-jack dempseys (7"papa jack & 5"mama jack)
1-13" red tail cat(KAPUA) soon moving him to a friends pond
6" featherfin cat(mr. Noname)

55 gal breeder-
1-8" Red devil(CREAM) male
1-6.5" Midas (LIL RED) female

10 gal for the baby girls(5,4, and 2 years old)
2- 1.5" convicts
1-2.5" spotted raphael cat

I think you want to look that other way around. How many GPH are you aiming for and what kind of pump to get back up to the tank. Once you know that, know what you need for overflow is sort of easy, most times a 1" tube to siphon will be more than enough, the overflow only need to handle what is pumped in. If it's not pumped in, it won't be in there to overflow into the sump.
