I'm trying to make this DIY filter with supplies I've already got here at home.

My original thought was to just make a wet/dry filter out of one of my 55gs, but I dont think this will hold enough BB.

Second, I was going to build a 150 out of some glass i've got and some concrete board+drylok, but I think that is too much room for error.

Thirdly, I found a 90g on craigslist that could work as my w/d, but havent heard from the guy yet.

Lastly, I've come up with this. I've got more than a few 100L rubbermaids sitting around and I thinking I could fit a good amount of scrubbies into two of them.

The water will come down into a 5g bucket stuffed with filter floss for the mechanical end of it.

Then come down through the bottom of the bucket into the BB area... fill up the first chamber then flow into the second.

In the second rubbermaid I'll have another bucket with holes drilled in it and this is where my pump(s) will be.

I'm thinking of running two pumps instead of one larger one.

I'm OPEN to ideas and recommendations!!!!

I would really like to get this put together asap.

thanks fellas

I could do either way...

but I finally got off my lazy ass and put together a 125 out of pcs of glass i had from my 180... I didnt have any help, so I hope it works... everything looks good so far.

What do you think?

I want to use as much BIO MEDIA as possible even if it means making it a completely wet flow filter.

I divided the media into 2 comparments to minimize dead spots. Tank size is 60x18x27 (filter) 125g. Pump will be at around 3000gph. Giving me a turn over of about 4.7p/hr.
