I just got an acrylic 180g 6x2x2 with two corner overflow. The problem is the tank is not drill in the overflow area. Here are my questions.

What size bulk heads should I use? This will determine what Size i would need to do to drill.
What size sump should I use?

Should run two PVC to a T connector then to the sump or should I have two PVC pipe run to the sump?

Can I use my existing quiet one 4000hh pump for a sump?

Your effort and time in answering my questions would be greatly appreciated.

For a 180g I would personally go for dual 1.5" drains and a 1" return using a mag18 pump. So 1.5" bulkheads would be ok. Also personally I wouldn't T the drains into one as this will restrict flow down to your sump. For sump size I would go for a 60-70 gallon. You could get away with a smaller sump but I like using large sumps so this way will give u more options with sump designs, more water volume and more room for media.

Just fill it up till it overflows, this way you know when to stop Lol.

You looking to do a quiet sump (herbie/durso) or the common loud sump (niagra falls)?
What are your plans for the Sump design?

My overflow has a 1.5" drain and I have 2 quiet1 4000's on it (although one is also feeding my 40gl frag on the left side of the tank) but it takes it w/a lot of friking splashing! :(

BTW, I think I know where a couple 15" Congis are located suka!:naughty:

No niagra fall style sump please. I want a quiet sump yielding good filtration. I usually see pipes inside a the overflow. What's the purpose of that?

Pipes inside the overflow is to shorten the fall of the water causing the splash. Also to have one of the drains 100% submerged while the rest are for breathing/emergency water.

When having a drain submerged, the sticky gph/per inch rule is out the window as way more water runs through...

Look up jcardona's threads, I think it's some of the best planned/photo's/description on MFK. I'm sure there are others, just haven't read them all.

I would do 2 1.5 inch return lines and 1inch in flow lines, 55 gallon sump would work but smaller would work also just not too much, a 40 gallon tank would probably work, Setup some Stand Pipes in the overflows to make it quiet or look up gurgle buster also, Just google those names and you will see the info for them. With any pump put a ball valve just after the pump in case you need to back the flow down a bit.
