I have a 1,700 or so gallon intex pool it's a circle 12 foot in diameter and 30 inches deep. I've heard of people making filters but I just need some help with technical stuff I will be making a skippy filter at least I think that's what it's called I just need to know how big the plastic drum must be(30 gal 55 gal 70 gal??) and how big of a pump I will need (meaning how many gph) the pool will be stocked with a RTC and a silver arowana which other fish do you recommend (pacu, more catfish, more arowana I really don't know if there is even room for anything else )

I've never heard the term "skippy filter" before, sounds Australian! ;)

If you've got a bit of DIY skill there are infinite possibilities as to how you could go about filtering your pool. I think instead of asking people to design your filter system for you it would be worth while taking some time to read through some of the threads in the Set Up & Filtration DIY Tanks and DIY Filters forums to get some ideas of what you should be looking to achieve. How much space you have, how tidy/pretty you want it to be, and how much you have to spend will all be big influences on your design.

You need some sort of mechanical filter to remove the physical waste, biological filter to perform the nitrogen cycle, a pump strong enough to tun over your volume 2-8 times per hour (depending on a number of factors), and some way of keeping it warm.
