Purchased a Fluval 403 canister at a sale for $10 and figured I couldn't really go wrong. Now I only have the actual canister, about 3 inches of tubing and the two locks for the intake and output hoses. I need everything up from the locks... That being said I have looked at the diagram and noticed that these filters have quite a few more pieces than I had thought. The pieces would cost quite a bit to order. Would it hurt anything to just go to home depot and buy some tubing and a strainer/u bracket for the intake? I'm unfamiliar with canisters in general and would appreciate the help.

One of the best Fluval cannisters ever. Have had one for years and it burned two weeks ago.

You won't get spare parts, so do your best! I could send you everything but am in europe...

Change the hose system and the hose valves to Eheim and you are set to go...

The diiference between that 403 and say Eheim 2217 is that both intake and outflow hoses are of the same size. You get the 2217 eheim hoses and an eheim hose adapter to that piece of tubing you got.

Would it be alright to just use some leftover home depot tubing and run it straight from the values (in the picture) to the tank? I'd put a strainer on the intake so no one gets sucked up. The diagram shows a lot of connection pieces including some rigid pieces between the valves and where the hosing reaches the tank. Sorry if I'm being a pain. I just don't want to mess anything up! :)

I'd like to do that later on for sure, I'm just wondering if hooking up some tubing without all those pieces would hurt anything, I have the values but thats really it.
