will be going on the output of an eheim 2026
pump rated for 250gph
filter media will be mostly for mechanical and chemical

what would be good estimate of the actual flow with media in it? i am guessing around 130-150gph? does that sound accurate?

i am trying to figure out if i should the turbotwist 9w or 18w

here is the recommendations from the manufacturer:
Parasites
9W
55 gph
18W 110

Algae
9w 121gph
18w 240gph

bacteria
9w 253 gph
18w 500 gph

based on that chart , if i get the 18w model, the flow rate will be around the mark for killing parasites, does that mean if i do not get higher flow rates, it will not do anything for algea or bacteria? or if i get the 9w model, the flow rate will be for algea.

tank size 180g
also have a eheim 2080 but that has two outputs.
main reason i am getting uv is for water clarity, i see some floating algea particles in the tank. i would also like the other benefits of uv, killing parasites and bacteria

ughh i feel lost =/

thanks for the help

Go with the 18w. The price difference is not worth the debate.

I use a 9w in my 120g tank and I know it basically just clarifies and keeps the free floating algae down. My tank is always crystal clear. On my 210g I am setting up I am going with an 18w. Again I am just looking for clear water not complete killing of all the little bugs/parasites. Are you raising sensitive fish, like EBJD where this is an issue? Or are you just looking for clear water?

thanks for the reply
i called corllife esu and they told me to get the 18w one =)

they said with the flow that i will be getting, it will be good for algae, bacteria, and parasites.

i could also get the 36w one which would be more efficient but that is more money in electricity bills.

i do not have any sensitive fish but i want it for water clarity and i might as well get the full benefit of the uv, killing bacteria and parasites.

I actually use the AquaMedic brand that is totally a look alike of the turbo twist. I am in the process of returning a 36 watt unit because the shear size of the unit made it impossible to mount inside my stand (along with dual FX5's and other gear). I will be ordering the 18w turbo twist myself.
