I was told he was a blue catfish, got him for next to free he's about 8" now I have him in a 55 gal with 1 lrg gold fish and 2 pleco, I have plans to move to a 125gal in a month or 2....ps the gold fish is my gf and I want him gone lol, his barbs look too long to be a blue looking for an expert opinion on species and any tank advise I can get, had him for a week and love him

Hardly, the eyes look too big for one. Brachies are tiny-eye catfish.

OP: blue catfish is from NA and an entirely different fish from the one in the photo. I think this one is from Pimelodidae family and the Pimelodus genus. Assigning species would be easier with more and better photos. Looks kind of like the ubiquitous Pimelodus blochii but cannot be sure.

Yep. It's a blochii with its black spot by the dorsal base. The last shot leaves no doubt. Their coloration may vary a bit, perhaps depending on the collection point. 999 out of 1000 will not exceed 1' total length but I have seen a few and owned one that exceeded that but not by much, ~14" TL.
