If you're going with 48", why not just get a shop light for around $20 from Lowes or Home Depot and fill it with some bulbs for $4 a pair? It's worked fine for me so far on my 4' long 55 gallon.:)

Yo.

I'd go with the 2x 96 watts I have a 4" fixture on my 180g which is also 6' long and the ends of the tank are rather dark.

Welll most are hanging lights but I don't see a problem with putting them on glass. Just cover it with plastic just to make it look nice. YO!

i use a single 36" light on my 150. the 6' and even the 4' seemed to be too much light. the 3' light is dim enough that all my fish are active yet i can still see everything easily

My 4' shop light is just sitting on the glass tops. I got a black one, it looks pretty much like a standard fish tank hood type light. I'm running two Sylvania 40 watt 1600k bulbs that I got for less than $4 a pair.

Here's a link to the kind of light I'm talking about...

Mine is kind of like that one, but you get the idea.

If you get theis type of light, I'd only use it with glass tops so no water gets on them.
