I'm picking up a ~250 gallon tank tomorrow, just tank alone and need some help when it comes to the stand. The tank is 8'x2'x2' and I'm estimating a final weight of 2500lbs. I'm not sure whether to go with wood or go with metal. Any ideas would be appreciated. Aesthetics are not all that important here as it'll be in a basement. Any cost estimates would be appreciated too as I have no idea what the metal would cost! Thanks, Chris

Most of the metal stands I've had were given to me because guys didnt want them anymore; I ground the rust off and resealed them. Within a few years the rust was coming through again...there seems to be constant maintenance. I've always used either 2x6 or 2x8 spruce with 4x4 posts for uprights and notch the top edge so its wood and not nails or screws that are carrying the load. Simple design thats never failed me... 50$ wood will support a 220g and not fail.

use 8 4x4 legs frame out top and bottom with 2x6 stand them upright so the 6" is going up and down not laying flat. a few braces with 2x4s and you will be fine. I think there might be pics if you look in my gallery
