need help with measurements.

i really wish i did my homework in school because now im very confused about how to measure if something is 22.3" high...

when i took out my tape measure, i cant figure out what the hell ".3" is! i tried counting the lines up to 23" but they don't equal 1.0 (to the next inch up). there are way more than 10 lines between inches

all i have are a bunch of fractions to guide me to the next inch and i cant understand how to convert that into a decimal number like ".3". i even counted every other line and it still doesn't equal 1 inch. help please.

How exact do you need to be? .25 is a 1/4" and .375 is 3/8"

.3 is real close to 5/16"

i cant find 5/16 on my measuring tape.

dont forget to account for the width of your cut


or when in doubt.. just clamp everything together and rasp it all even
