I am interested in converting a 75 gallon I have into a mudskipper habitat. However, I would love to simulate the actual muddy conditions these animals live in. It seems like most people stick with the PFS for skippers, but that is not muddy at all. I have heard about possibly mixing in refugium mud, but I was wondering if anyone else had better ideas? Or if they have tried refugium mud how it worked out.

usuly depending on the types thay stay on verry moist sand but useing mud and dirt will have clarity problems if done wrong look into it more if you want you cen allways look up how to make fish safe tree roots

Hi,

I've used a variety of dark colored aq sands mixed with "sandy" mud collected from a salt marsh, and the mud alone; both worked well at home and in 2 zoo exhibits. Best if mud is contained in a drainable, removable container, but not necessary...depending on other aq inhabitants and filtration, it settles down. I used a reverse undergravel filter in 1 exhibit - mud tends to pack and the water flow through it was very beneficial in maintaining water quality etc. Article linked below discusses care a bit, those at bottom of that article address brackish water animalss; pl let me know if you need more info, enjoy, Frank Pl see this article http://bit.ly/XLR9SD
